Overview

The complete report on hydrogen by IRENA

As the world strives to cut carbon emissions, electric power from renewables has emerged as a vital energy source. Yet several sectors will still require combustible fuels for many purposes. Such needs could be met with hydrogen, which itself can be produced using renewable power, while today it is already produced in significant quantities from natural gas.

Dr. Dolf Gielen, Director of the Innovation and Technology Centre at IRENA, the International Renewable Energy Agency, shared the results of the recent IRENA-study 'Hydrogen from Renewable Power: Technology Outlook for the Energy Transition'. Before doing so, he introduced IRENA to the audience and shared highlights of the decarbonisation scenarios developed by IRENA in previous years.
