Overview

The long-awaited LNG import surge into Northwest Europe has finally materialised, and new FIDs have been taken after sluggish years. In spite of uncertain long-term demand prospects, Northwest Europe has become more reliant on gas imports and this trend is likely to continue in the medium term, also because of declining Groningen production. A number of important questions remain on the table: What are the prospects for flexible LNG availability and are Northwest Europe and The Netherlands well positioned to receive supply in the medium term? Will markets tighten around 2022? What course of action is Gazprom likely to follow and what are the implications for Northwest Europe and The Netherlands? What could be done to make sure that our markets remain well supplied in a competitive environment?

We have invited international gas experts Tatiana Mitrova (Skolkovo and Columbia University) and Gergely Molnar (International Energy Agency) to share their analysis and start the debate. After their presentations, we will have a roundtable discussion among selected experts in which everyone is encouraged to actively participate.
