Q&A**

Following the gas supply shock of 2022/23, natural gas markets returned to a more pronounced growth in 2024, with global gas demand expected to reach new all-time highs both in 2024 and 2025. Still, the global gas balance remains fragile amid limited LNG supply growth and geopolitical tensions. Responsible producers and consumers will need to work together to reinforce the architecture of global gas supply security.

The Global Gas Security Review has provided a thorough assessment of the evolution of gas supply security and LNG contracting trends each year since its first publication in 2016. This year’s edition includes the latest insights of the IEA’s quarterly Gas Market Report, which provides a review of market developments over the first three quarters of 2024 and a short-term outlook for the remainder until 2025. Part of the IEA’s Low-Emissions Gases Work Programme, this year’s Review includes a special section on this topic, with a focus on the system integration of low-emissions gases in the transport sector.

Tom Marzec-Manser (Head of Gas Analytics at ICIS) provided commentary on the report and presentation. Tom leads the gas and LNG analysis teams at ICIS, having been with the company for 16 years. He currently oversees ICIS LNG Foresight, the leading LNG global supply & demand forecasting and cargo-tracking analytics platform, as well as the new ICIS Gas Foresight product which is a fundamental and price forecast for Europe. He previously led the daily European gas pricing and news team. Tom is a regular commentator on global and European gas markets, as well as LNG developments. He especially tracks – and reflects upon – Russian gas and LNG exports.
